Have you noticed a difference in our climate over the past few years? More floods and hail storms, stronger hurricanes and tornadoes? For many Canadians, and others around the world this change has caused serious damage, upset, and worry for the future of our climate as explained in the doc zone " Weather Gone Wild." According to the video it says "By the year 2050, just 35 years from now, Canada can expect double the number of extremely heavy precipitation events - with periods of drought in between, 5 times as many hot days over 30 degrees, 100% increase in wildfires, 50% less snowfall across the prairies, more hail and 50% more ice storms,More intense hurricanes." this is a very significant fact that makes up really open our eyes as to whats happening in our world.
I believe the theme of this video was that there are serious climate changes happening in our world that we need to realize how to prepare and protect our selves from. For example, in New York since the heat breaking damage caused by hurricane Sandy, they are pouring a lot of money into adding more dikes, and creating a more hurricane/flood proof area around the city to protect it's buildings and people from future natural disasters.
Although there were many topics discussed during this video, one of the main topics was floods. They explained why some of these major floods have happened in places such as Manitoba, how they have affected the surrounding areas, and it's inhabitants, and also how they are planning on preventing these floods from having such dramatic outcomes in the future. I found it very interesting to see how major the effects of these floods can be, because we don't disasters like that happen near us very often.
